At Kintsugi Art Studio, immerse yourself in the delicate craft of Kintsugi, an ancient Japanese art form that celebrates imperfection and resilience. The philosophy behind this art form is to treat breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to discard. Why not marry Singapore and Japanese culture? Our studio offers workshops inspired by our unique Peranakan culture in Singapore, incorporating elements of special Peranakan Ceramics and Tiles for a unique cultural experience. You can also dress up in traditional Peranakan kebaya to match the beautiful Peranakan ceramics ( only for women ). Through this kintsugi Peranakan tile workshop, you'll embark on a transformative journey into the heart of the Peranaken culture and the Japanese art of kintsugi. Led by our instructor, Nilo, a certified Kyoto trained kintsugi practitioner and certified Peranakan museum docent with many years of teaching expertise and guiding experience. Participants will not only gain a formal overview of the entire technique but also a rich understanding of the cultural, historical, and environmental aspects that make Peranakan culture and Kintsugi so meaningful. All materials are provided. For ages 5 and up. What is included in your 3-hour beginner's workshop: 1) Rental of traditional Peranakan Kebayas for ladies. Various vibrant colours available of different sizes! 2) An introduction to the history of Peranaken culture and history of Kintsugi. 3) 1 Big Peranakan Tile of your choice from SG’s Peranakan Tile Gallery. 4) Full art materials for kintsugi repir. Please note that the art materials can’t be taken back home. Purely for use in the studio only. 5) Free flow of Japanese Green Tea and snacks. 6) Sharing of reflections from students on their journey of learning about Peranaken culture and Kintsugi repair. 7) Beautiful Japanese Sakura flower gift box to take home your beautifully restored Kintsugi pieces.
