Service Description

Sashiko is a versatile Japanese stitching and embroidery technique primarily used to mend, reinforce, and embellish garments. In the past, the women of rural farming communities practiced this simple running stitch using white thread on indigo-dyed fabrics like cotton and hemp. Over time, sashiko has evolved from a frugal necessity to a decorative stitching style. Modern examples of sashiko can be observed in various contemporary fashion houses both in Japan and beyond. We offer all the materials and teaching guidance required for a beginner level Sashiko workshop. What is included in your 2 hour Sashiko session: 1) All materials required including a) Yume Fukin - Sashiko cloth with pre printed designs b) Sashiko Tin - fine thread for Sashiko stitching c) Sashiko needles - 4 types of needles with different length and thickness, d) Thimble - to be used when using longer needles 2) A gift box to take back your finished Sashiko piece. 3) Your finished sashiko piece can be made into coasters or placemats. 4) Free flow of Japanese green tea and snacks throughout the session.
